Dear Girls of the World: Do Not Travel If...

Dear Girls of the World,

I hope you all are doing well and life is treating you better than ever! My name is Marysia and I’m a crazy Polish Girl behind My Travel Affairs Blog!

I will not be getting into details of what I like and where I’m living. You can read more about me here, when you will have few extra minutes to spear!

What is important to know is that I love to travel! That I’m a total optimist and a true rebel at heart! And that I like to think I’m the luckiest person in the world!

But now, we have more important subject to approach!

Those days everyone tell you that TRAVEL is a big must and that it brings happiness you have never experienced before! Therefore I have decided to tell you why you shouldn’t travel!

Do not travel if you don’t want to be independent and self-sufficient.

Do not travel if you don’t want to have great stories to tell.

Do not travel if you don’t want to be adventurous!

Do not travel if you are not ready to quit you 9-5 work!

Do not travel if you don’t want to be a Girl with your own mind and opinions!

Do not travel if you are not ready to talk to strangers and meet amazing people on your way.

Do not travel if you don’t want to experience and live life to the fullest!

Do not travel if you don’t want to challenge yourself.

Do not travel if you are not interested in learning and understanding different cultures, mentalities and religions.

Do not travel if you do not want to become open minded and confident!

Do not travel if you are not curious! If you are not fascinated by different perspectives.

Do not travel if you do not want to grow, to change, to become a better version of yourself.

Do not travel if you do not want to live by your own rules. If you don’t want to be fully responsible for yourself and your actions!

Do not travel if you are not ready to escape your comfort zone.

Do not travel if you do not want to expand your horizons and broaden your mind!

Do not travel if you do not want to become spontaneous Girl with a great sense of direction!

Do not travel if you are not ready for fun of your life.

Do not travel if you are constantly on the diet and eat only salad! You will need to eat a lot of new food and most importantly travel is for hedonists!

Do not travel if you fail to notice beauty of moments.

Do not travel if you are not ready to encounter compassion!

Do not travel if you are not ready to screw up sometimes.

Do not travel if you do not want to recreate yourself.

Do not travel if you are not ready for a sense of absolute freedom! Freedom is addictive, more addictive than any possible drug. You will become a big freedom junkie!

Do not travel if you are not prepared to face your fears and insecurities!

Do not travel if you are not ready to be alone.

Do not travel if you do not want to become less materialistic.

Do not travel if common sense is not your best friend!

Do not travel if you do not want to become assertive.

Do not travel…. and this one is the most important reason… if you expect that travel will brings you happiness!

Travel is deadly for prejudice and monotony. Travel will humble you. Travel will challenge and transform you. Travel will help you to understand yourself and others better.

Travel will become your biggest passion, your addiction. Travel with brings you beautiful memories, possibility to learn and grown. Travel will stretch your limits. Travel will foster appreciation for world at large and little things back at home.

But travel will not make you happy!

What?! How come? Everyone says I will be the happiest person on Earth if I travel!

No, sorry. My answer is no.

I’m gonna tell you something that not many bloggers will do. Travel will not bring you happiness! Not if you are not able to understand that happiness is an ability to appreciate little things.

That happiness is not something you can gain. Happiness is a stage of mind. Either you are happy or not. Happiness is something within you and it is your obligation to find it and bring it to the surface!

So let’s all follow words of Pharrell Williams from his ‘Happy’ song:

Because I'm happy… Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

Because I'm happy… Clap along if you know what happiness is to you

Because I'm happy… Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

So here is my last piece of advise. Travel if you think that it is what you wanna do not because someone, somewhere, at some point told you so!

Best regards and lots of happiness!
Marysia

PS. You may notice that I do not talk about solo travel. It is very simple I do not want to be put in this niche. I do travel solo and I love it! I prefer to travel solo, mainly because I'm selfish when it comes to travel. But many of you lovely Girls will prefer to travel with friends or with a partner! There is no pressure. You may love it or hate it! Just give it a try at least one so you can decide for yourself :)

  2. Great article and approach to the topic Marysia. You certainly have great experience and knowledge in this matter.

I love your spin on what people miss if they don't travel. I also agree with your approach to happiness. There are some very miserable travellers out there!
